For those of you that don't know, the British Indoor Rowing Championships 2002 took place at the NEC, Birmingham on Saturday 17th November. Cygnet sent two competitors.
Simon French, a fairly new member at Cygnet, competed in the BUSA U23 category, and came 28th overall with a blistering time of 6:17.8 for 2000 metres.
Simon Blackburn competed in the Men's Open event and came 59th with a fantastic (and we believe PB) time of 6:27.9.
Both guys deserve credit for representing the club so admirably, and the Captian writes...
I am pleased to report the excellent results of two Cygnet members who took place in last weekend's indoor rowing championships.
Simon French pulled a massive 6.17.8 for the 2k which placed him at 32nd in the under 23's category and means that he is eligible for the Under 23 trials in December.
Simon Blackburn also pulled and excellent 6.27.9 in the open category.
These times are the result of very hard training and commitment and should help to inspire the rest of us to at least beat our personal best times before the beginning of the regatta season next year.
To set a benchmark for the rest of the Winter training we will be doing a 5k ergo test on Saturday 30th November. The aim of this test will be a starting place for all of us to beat each month. I will record the times and will set expectations and goals for each member to achieve before the start of the Summer training in April.
PLEASE COME TO THE CLUB AT THE FOLLOWING TIMES ON SATURDAY 30TH:
9:00 - Gavin Bottomley, Gavin Estcourt, Dave Grimshaw, Damian Cooke
9.30 - Dave Wright, Nathan Wallace, Mark Wilson, Ian Stephenson

THANKS A LOT GUYS!!! - ED.
Lots more information on the BIRC can be found here (including an entry form for next year).
Unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures of the boys in action, so here's some rather nice erg-tottie instead...
Actually turns out there are some pictures. Find below "images" of Simon French, Simon Blackburn, Sarah Gardiner. Don't know about you, but I'd still rather look at Ms. Lauritzen (above) than these three...
