Global Mile Relay

15th May 2021, 12:30 - 13:30

Dear all

Next Saturday (15th May) I will be participating in a global relay as part of the Foreign Office (FCDO) "GlobalMile" initiative that will see UK Civil Servants and Diplomats at UK embassies and posts all over the world doing a relay for a global 24 hour period. Full details here.

I have stepped forward to do a stint here in London as part of our UK Based Teams and thought what better way than do it with Cygnet, to support a brilliant cause, celebrate our links to the Civil Service at home and overseas and to raise the profile of the Club.

Whilst I can do it in a single, I'd love to put a crew of volunteers together in an 8+ (or multiple boats if we have the numbers) and do a short extra outing next Saturday with a "racing mile". Please sign up if you are interested and would love to put together a mixed crew of Vets and the Saturday morning squad to have a crew from the breadth of the club. If it goes well we might look to do some intra-club side-by-side racing events later in the season.

Event:
Foreign Office (FCDO) GlobalMile Relay - Cygnet Rowing Leg

Date & Time:
15th May at12.30 (OTW)

Course:
Racing Mile from Putney Town Steps to Cygnet Flag Pole (approx. 1 mile) with the ebb tide. (low tide 13.11)

If you are interested and would like to join, please get in touch and let me know by Monday 10 May to get signed up. Drop me an email by reply or Whatsapp.

The FCDO Globalmile is being run in support of mental health charities, including MIND in the UK so would ask those joining to donate a 'race entry fee' via the link below. All donations welcome: https://Uk.virginmoneygiving.com/globalmile

Any questions, please do get in touch - really hope we can put a crew together to support this cause.

Many thanks
Rupert

PS. Any launch drivers interested in coming along for the ride to get some footage and 'officiate' please let me know!
