One very important contribution to the happiness of mankind of which our country may be properly proud is its gift, to the world, of organised sport. I will not dwell here on the reasons that it was largely in our schools and universities that people first came together to form themselves into Clubs and Associations, whether for football or for athletic pursuits.
For our part, as one of the not very many rowing clubs which can look back upon 100 years of existence, we too may be proud of the part that we have played in that scene. As a small club we cannot look back upon glorious victories over the giants of the sport at Henley, but we are surely able to hold our heads high for the sportsmanship and endeavour that our members have shown over the years. The club flourishes, is still very much here and who knows.................?
