Early Heads Season round-up
5th October 2022
The 2022/23 Head season training had begun in earnest with some long outing and long ergs before being rudely interrupted by some Head Races!
17th September – Scullers Head
The Head season has a new opener: Scullers Head has now moved to a permanent slot in mid-September ahead of Pairs Head so the season makes much more logical sense, with racing starting with the smallest boats and getting increasingly bigger! Your four Cygnet representatives were:
#207 • Club • P Goldsworthy • Finish time: 25:13.78 (251st)
#209 • Club • C Piguet • Finish time: 25:41.35 (295th)
#396 • Masters Novice • C Pretzlik • Finish time: 26:52.17 (365th)
#365 • Masters H • N Wylie • Finish time: 27:36.17 (403rd)
1st October – Rhine Marathon, Dusseldorf, Germany
After an enforced two year hiatus, we were finally back in Germany for some bier and sausage... we mean The Rhine Marathon, with three crews entered. A strong westerly meant that conditions were pretty awful for much of the race and the crews certainly earned that bier and sausage. A lot of disscussion was had pre-race as to which of our three crews would go fasted and it was decided that it was gong to be very close. And so it proved, with just 4 minutes separating the crews – age and experiencing just piping youth and fitness.
As always a huge thank you to our hosts at RG Benrath, particularly the ever-reliable Mucha and Tichel.
#119 • Veteran CYG Quad • Finish time: 2hrs 48
Mucha (RGB Cox), Nick Wylie, Neil Pickford, Martin Drage, Tom Broadhurst.
#78 • Mens coxed Four • Finish time: 2hrs 49
Kett (RGB Cox), Cris Cabrera, Mustafa Özyurt, Matt Byrne, Matt Gutteridge.
#62 • Mixed Quad (BBL/CYG Composite) • Finish time: 2hrs 52

2nd October, Pairs Head
With numerous squad members away in Germany, Iain Golder & Brad Bryant were Cygnet's sole representatives at Pairs Head. A very strong showing from BBLRC with a pennant or two to show for it. Strong work.
