Cygnet RC does the FCDO Globalmile
On Saturday 15th May, Cygnet Rowing Club celebrated its links and history with the Civil Service by joining in with a truly global relay as part of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) Globalmile event. A racing crew completed a mile course as part of the London Leg of the Globalmile event that saw diplomats from British Embassies across the world complete a 24-hour relay; on foot, by bike, in the water and in our case, in Club colours and at race-pace in the Noel Davison VIII+. The FCDO event was organised in aid of mental health charities, including MIND in the UK, with efforts so far raising in excess of £17,000.
The race was a welcome return to racing post-lockdown and some excellent practice for the forthcoming regatta season. It also served as a fantastic opportunity to proudly display our racing colours and promote our links to the civil service and diplomatic community. The crew, coxed by BBLRC Captain Hannah Cox, raced a mile course from Putney Town Steps to the Civil Service boat house flagpole, completing the course in a time of 5:39. Special thanks to the racing crew: H Steedman (Cox), M Guttridge (Stroke), C Cabrera , M Byrne, P Goldsworthy, R Bailey, V Todorov, J Broadhurst (BBLRC Super-Sub), T Broadhurst (Bow).
