Learning to Row

7th March 2026

Dear Michelle, Linda,

I just wanted to take time to say thank you very much for putting us in touch with the Cygnet Rowing Club. All four of us in the Oardinary Crew ventured down to Barnes on Saturday morning for a learn to row course led by Tom.

We were lucky to meet several of the rowing club team members and learn a bit about the history that makes up Cygnet Rowing. Some of the team gave up their Saturday’s to ensure that we could go out on the water – unquestionably the most valuable part of the training for us. It was nice to get a feel for the great culture in the club and how it’s a brilliant way to keep Civil Servants engaged in a sport with such a rich history.

We’ll speak to Tom directly about potentially joining some of their strength and conditioning sessions over the next few months – although I don’t think any of us were naturals when it came to rowing on the river. Our ocean rowing boat is a lot more stable!

Many thanks again,

Jamie Gregory
