Key Details

Arrival

Wednesday 6th April (evening arrival after work). Or you can opt into days if you struggle to get the time off work.

Training Camp Programme

Thursday – Sunday: 3.5 days of training, rowing together with coaching on and off the water, developing as a squad and as crews. 2–3 Sessions per day.

Return to Club

Sunday 10th April (afternoon)

Location

Reading Rowing Club. Quiet stretch of the Thames away from London with plenty of water time, staying close by in Reading Travelodge (details below).

AccommodationWe will be staying at one of the Travelodges in Reading, you will have the choice of a double room to yourself (£50 p/n) or a shared twin room (£25 p/n).
CostThere will be a per day fee for use of club facilities, coaching, launch use, boat transport etc, likely to be £30–£50 per day. We will confirm this once we’ve got a sense of numbers but will keep the costs as low as we can.

We have slightly adjusted the plan and rather than running the camp out of Pangbourne, will be using the Reading stretch of the Thames which will give us 5–6 km of river for longer paddles, as well as two stretches where we can do1000 to 1500m pieces side-by-side, so excellent regatta practice. Compared to Tideway it's much calmer water, and normally quite quiet during the week.  Hopefully the weather will have warmed up a bit too!

The plan will be to run 2–3 sessions per day, potentially a combination of land and water training, making the most of the facilities at Reading RC with the aim of offering good quality training and coaching over successive days but in a balanced way. We want to get lots out of the session and the camp as a whole but not to exhaust the squad with lots of intense sessions each day.

We hope that as many people as possible will sign up for the ‘full camp’ with the intention of arriving Wednesday evening and running through sessions Thursday to Sunday. However, ultimately it is up to you how many days you sign up for, the camp and accommodation will be charged on a per day basis. However, the longer you stay the more you will get out of it.

Any questions, please drop me a line. Some details are still to be worked out but that's plenty to be getting on with!

Best wishes
Rupert
