    24th November 2015

High seas on the Tideway on Saturday kept us on dry land, well done to those who made it down to do an erg as well as everyone who did Thursday's 50min erg.

The MAG 8+ was out on Sunday with our new recruits getting more rowing miles under their belts and getting used to the cold. And the Sculling Pod made it down the full course to get used to the pain they'll go through in a couple of weeks in Scullers Head and learn where the PLA have put their buoys.

    This week:

Tuesday: Circuits with Maxi, 7:15 at Cavendish School Edensor Road. Let's keep the good attendance going and keep building the fitness for the Barnes Bridge Christmas Ball. Please remember to bring a towel and some water.

Thursday: 7pm Squad Erg: 4 x 5 mins at target 5k pace, maintain throughout and have 10 min warm up & down. A breeze after last week. Sign up for food with Bart after the erg ( BdG@gmx.net)

Weekend: Looks like we have good availability both days, if you're availability isn't up to date please get online and update it so I can put you in a boat at the weekend. To fit in with the tide times and give the scullers a chance to get out on quieter water the squad outings will be at 8am both days.

    Further Ahead:

5th December 11am Scullers Head with 6 Cygnet and 6 BBL scullers entered. Everyone of them will greatly appreciate a cheer from the bridge or the club.

20th December (probably) Plum Pudding Race which is a great chance to give people of first taste of race like rowing with a festive flavour. Can you let me know if you'd like to row in it.

    Important Notice:

Unfortunately Scott L had his car broken into last Thursday. It happens to us and other local clubs , the club is isolated and the parked cars can be easy pickings for the local oiks. Best plan is not to drive to the club, next best is to leave you car on the Barnes side and walk across the bridge, if you have no option, please make sure there is nothing on show in your car.

Have a good week, see you Thursday

    16th November 2015

Wild, wet and windy weekend on the Tideway. But that didn't deter our brave boys. Excellent 8+ outing in the rain on Saturday, good mileage for our new recruits getting up to Syon House for the first time. Great to see Hamish back on the water. The wind was the challenge on Sunday gusting close to 40mph so another new experience for our rowing academy graduates and challenging for Scott B on his first water outing. Afterwards 5 scullers made it against the headwind to the Pink House, excellent tough training for Scullers Head.

And we voted in 8 new members at the committee meeting on Sunday so welcome and I hope you have a great time on the river and as part of the club. The offer of captains beers for new members still stands, if you are down for the Squad Erg on Thursday, that's a good way to rehydrate...

    This Week:

Tuesday 7:15 Circuits with Maxi at Cavendish School.

Thursday 7pm Squad Erg 2 x 25 mins @ R20 incl. 4 x 1 min @ 24,26,28,30 (2 min rest) Long erg to build strength and stamina - stay on for food, Sian in cooking sian_kunert@hotmail.co.uk and captain will buy you beer. What not to like.

    Weekend:

Outing plan to be sent out on Friday am, get your availability on the sheet by Wednesday please, there are a few gaps at the moment.

Sculling Pod: High tide is at 9:12 on Saturday and 10:30 on Sunday so the best time for sculling would from 2 hours after that - 11am Saturday and 12:30 on Sunday. Scullers let me know what you prefer to do, there's not much time before the race, I certainly would be up for rowing the course on Sunday at 12:30.

    Further Ahead

5th December 11am Sculler Head - 7 Cygnets have their entries accepted, 3 debutants, it's a tough race so support is very welcome.

Plum Puddings - A race like social row organised by Quintin RC, probably on the 19th December should be a first opportunity for racing for our new recruits. Get fit and get as much time as you can on the water to have a good first race experience.

    9th November 2015

Busy busy weekend on the water at the weekend in wild and windy conditions. We had 2 crews racing in Vet 4s Head, Mas B 4- (Bart, Gav, Jez, Ian) were 3rd in category (podium finish) and 36th overall, Mas C 4x (Simon, Tom, Rob W, Charlie ) 6th in category, 162 overall (out of 207 starters). The river was seriously rough from Hammersmith to Putney and it took guts from all the crews to get through it. Rowers are all tough guys and gals.

Well done to Rob on his first ever race and to Charlie and Tom for their first race in a quad. Thanks to Simon who was super sub for Cris on the day.

And a first for our newest recruits as appropriately on 4s Head weekend they had their first outing in a 4. Wobbly aren't they?

Lots of activity in the clubhouse on both days, vodka consumption hit record levels thanks to Stefan and Warsaw RC. Stefan is an old Cygnet returning to race on the Tideway and trying to build amateur rowing on Poland. Maybe we'll row the head of the vistula one day...

    This week...

Tues 7 15pm Circuits with Maxi at Cavendish School. Good turn out last week, let's keep the momentum going.
    Thurs 7pm Squad erg night 2 x 4.5 k r 20 with 4 x r 30-32 bursts in each. 90 secs rest between the 2 pieces.

    Weekend
Scullers Head is the next big race on the 5th December. We have 8 entries so far, so we'll organise a sculling pod to do race training each weekend. Timing will depend on the tides trying to avoid high water and busy river. Sunday is always quieter, before the committee meeting at 10am could work. I'll confirm soon, but can those scullers who want to join in put that on the spreadsheet.
And if anyone wants to join the pod in a 2x or 2- feel free.
Outing plan will be published on Thursday so get your availability up to date on the spreadsheet.

Finally, for all the new guys, there is a committee meeting on Sunday where we will vote in new (and returning) members. We'd love you all to join, so if you've not already done so , fill in the membership form and get it pinned on the board in the changing rooms and by Sunday 1pm, you'll be a Cygnet!!!!
(If you've misplaced the form then you can download them from the website).

    Have a good week,
    Jez
