  • Cygnet RC COVID-19 members update

    Author: Neil Pickford |

    13th May 2020

    Dear all,

Last night, your committee discussed the next phase in the lockdown, following the plans from HM Government outlined earlier this week. We are working on a risk assessment ready for the opening of the boathouse, but that is, as we found out about an hour before the meeting, for the next step. In short, the reality is as follows:

    • British Rowing guidance: private single owners ONLY to boat from public slipways or with permission from private slipways.
    • All boathouses have to stay closed until 4th July 2020 at the earliest. Single scullers to adhere to the 2m distancing at all times, unless they share a household
    • PLA restriction on use of the river for recreational use has so far not been lifted intend to publish a decision by the end of the week.
For now, therefore, nobody is allowed to go out on the river, until the PLA have published their decision. This will also give the Boathouse Executive time to discuss how we can facilitate access to to the private sculls, so that when the time comes, they can be used.
I am sorry that I cannot bring you an 'All Systems GO" message at this moment in time, but we will send out another message once we know more.

Stay well - stay home - stay kind

    Marjorie
    Secretary, Cygnet RC

    Dear Cygnets,

I hope you are all keeping well and safe and making progress with the training plan or any other option of fitness. ;)

Just for your information Barnes Bridge Ladies Rowing Club has organised a 24 hour sportathon in half hour slots to raise money for Solace Women's Aid which provides support to women and children affected by domestic abuse. https://www.justgiving.com/team/BBL24 I am sure any support would be appreciated.

    Rowing:

As most of you may have seen over the last few days, there's been new comms from TRRC/British Rowing about the plans they're putting in place to be able to respond to whatever changes to Government restrictions may be announced this week. With this in mind, along with the anticipated Government announcement itself, I just wanted to send a quick update on what that means for us.

Following the upcoming release of updated government guidelines, and importantly BR and PLA guidelines, the committee will meet in turn, to agree on an updated protocol for all Cygnet members re. use of the club facilities and equipment.

Until we send out any further updates, please continue to follow the current guidelines, in short, everything is still a no go!

We can all appreciate how frustrating it is not being able to get out, especially given the weather and how glorious the river is looking, so your understanding and patience is much appreciated.

Hoping to be soon on the water.

    Cris
