Cygnet Weekly Update
31st October 2016
Hi All,
Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was good to see so many Cygnets and Barnes Bridge Ladies at Leander for the Henley lunch on Saturday. If we thought we were tough guys for paddling to the Pink House and back in a bit of launch wash, Mateo's story of his transatlantic row in the Talisker Challenge put what we do into perspective. Thanks to Stu for all his work organising the event.
And it was great to see 17 guys on the ergs doing Tim's first 2k test, there was real energy and determination in the Shed, a good indicator of the commitment from the squad. And the time trial down the Vets Head course on Sunday was an excellent dress rehearsal for the real event, getting the crews used to race conditions and putting down a lot of work. Impressive row by Guy to hold off both the 4x and 4- in his single.
Speaking of which, Sculler Head is coming up fast so anyone wanting to enter please let me know asap. So far BDF, Guy, Robin, Cris and myself are entered, there's room for a few more for the ultimate tideway test, dont be shy.
So this week:
Tuesday 7:15 Circuits with Maxi at Cavendish School - what can top the 75 burpee finisher we did last week??? I'm sure Maxi will have something up her sleeve.
Wednesday 7pm Club Run
Thursday 7pm Squad Erg (including ex LTR group) programme to be confirmed (next test will be 5k in a few weeks)
Saturday and Sunday water outings please put down your availability for outings 1 & 2, ex LTR guys can you make sure that you get into the routine of completing your availability for the weekend by Wednesday evening so we can plan coxing, coaching and crews in good time please so we make sure you get out onto the water.
Other Stuff:
Fours Head 12th November - there will be some very high class crews racing some down and watch the race and pick up some tips. We'll be looking for volunteers to help with all the crews boating from Cygnet.
Vet Fours Head 10:30 13th November - 3 Cygnet Crews entered so come and cheer them along
Kit window is still open, don't miss the chance to get club kit from Godfrey Sports http://godfrey.co.uk/club/cygnetrc.
And finally, it's the Barnes Bridge Christmas party on the 10th December at the Bulls Head in Barnes preceded by the Cygnet Waddle. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Have a good week, see you at Circuits tomorrow,
Jez
Cygnet Weekly Update 25th October 2016
25th October 2016
Hi All,
Some good hard work done at the weekend with long rows to the Pink House and double outings. And it was the final two outings of the learn to row course who are all now invited to join the club and become the new novice squad starting their rowing careers and aiming for Head of the River Race on the 25th March next year. Many thanks to Alan Cox for coaching the course imparting his great rowing wisdom and displaying his inexhaustible enthusiasm and patience in equal measure. It will be great to have a new intake of Cygnets, please make them all very welcome.
This Saturday is stripey blazer time again at the Leander Lunch in Henley, which means a lot of people will be heading off early after the first outing. For the same reason the Novice outing for the LTR graduates will be 10am on Sunday NOT Saturday. There will be a time trial on Sunday so tough decisions to be made about how many pints to have at the Flowerpot on Saturday afternoon....

18th October 2016
Super busy weekend on and off the water with Pairs Head on Sunday and 26 people rowing in the squad and learn to row outings on Saturday.
The results from Pairs Head from Cygnet and BBL were:
16:17.3 Bart/Gav16:39.5 KTB/Bec16:59.9 Jez/Rob17:02.7 Matt/Ian17:31.3 Clem/Abi 17:40.4Sian/Laura17:45.6 Sarah/Maxi18:10.8 Lucy/Em18:16.0 Kez/Char18:47.3 Jo/MarionThe good news was that after a pretty unpleasant morning the sun came out and the temperature was toastie for the middle of October. Slightly less was the brisk southwesterly wind that made the middle section of the race just a touch on the rough side. Thanks to BBL for putting on a great event.Up next is Fours Head then Vets Fours Head on thee 12/13th of November. We should be able to enter a Masters B crew and a couple of Novice crews, but we need to be putting in the hard yards on and off the water to get ready for them and to get selected...Cygnet Kit ordering: Big Dave French has organised a kit ordering window with Godfrey, the logistics are at the bottom of this email. For the newcomers amongst you, if you have aspirations to represent our fine club in competition (and you will do) the minimum requirement is a Cygnet all-in-one ('Custom Finesse' version). A splash-top and/or gillet will also get lots of use. (For those who already have all the gear, you may want to take a look at Cygnet's late but strong entry into the Most-Visually-Arresting-Tideway-Club-Leggings competition!) This week plans are:Tuesday 7:15 Circuits with Maxi at Cavendish School - an essential part of our training and "fun" way to get core conditioning. You can order directly at any time, but we've got a club ordering 'window' open from now until 20th Nov, which means all the orders are grouped together, and we benefit from the group discounts. Anything you order between now and Sunday 20th Nov will be delivered in mid-to-late Dec (so in time for Christmas present lists for Santa, and the Plum Puds race). No money is taken until after 20th Nov, when Godfrey have had a chance to collate the orders, apply the discounts and then take the payments. Also, the worst case scenario will be the 2-11 price level, even if you is the only person to order a particular item, if it is ordered within the club ordering window. The postage costs will also be split between everyone in the order and the kit will be despatched in one box.
