  • Spring 2022 Training Camp

    Author: Neil Pickford |

    27th September 2021

    Dear all

By popular demand, I am very excited to announce plans for a Spring 2022 Training Camp, which we will be looking to hold between the Winter Heads and Summer Regatta Seasons in April next year on 6th-10th April 2022.

More details are below, along with instructions for signing up / expressing interest.

This will be a chance for four days of rowing, training and coaching with multiple outings to build fitness, develop as a squad and as crews and to refine technique for the summer season. A springboard for our regatta racing campaigns if you will.

We have an excellent venue lined up for the camp on quieter stretches of the Thames on the Berkshire-Oxfordshire border between Goring and Pangbourne. A chance to treat ourselves after the long slog of a winter of tideway rowing with the opportunity to enjoy some rowing a bit further afield and away from tideway conditions with training and coaching on and off the water.

The site is about an hour and a half from the club, just over an hour from central London by public transport, so very accessible. We plan on this being a residential training camp (as the name suggests). To get the most out of it, we are really looking for people to attend for the full camp period (rather than dropping in for a couple of days), so will require a couple of days annual leave / family cover. The camp is open to all abilities and would really encourage you to come along and join in.

    Key Details

    Arrival

Weds 6th April (Evening Arrival after work)

    Training Camp Programme

Thurs - Sunday 3 and half days of training, rowing together with coaching on and off the water, developing as a squad and as crews

    Return to Club

    Sun 10th April (Afternoon)

    Location

Pangbourne College Boat Club. Lovely quiet stretch of the Thames away from London with plenty of water time

    Costs

Precise costs tbc. Less than £500 all inclusive

What I need from you at this stage is an expression of interest to get a good idea of numbers to guide costs and accommodation requirements which will help us to firm up all the relevant details for you.

Please use the link to sign up / express your interest. If you know that you definitely cannot attend, please also complete this so we can get a good estimate of our likely numbers.

Any questions, please log via the form or email me directly to find out more.

Really hope as many of you as possible will be able to join in and participate in an enjoyable few days away with the Club and some great rowing. If you've read this far and would like a bit of a sneak peak and some inspiration, check out this link from a previous TSS training camp to get an idea of the waters and scenery on the Pangbourne waters.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    20th September 2021

Good Afternoon Cygnets, this is your Captain Speaking

Great to get the season underway this week with our squad meeting on Tuesday, really great to see so many familiar faces as we set out the plans for the season ahead. A big thank you to Beth for preparing us so well with the plan looking ahead to the aim of the season - Head of the River Race (HORR) on 26th March 2022. Thank you to all those who attended.

I have summarised the plan and all that we discussed at the meeting in the attached document [removed. Contact rupert direct for a copy - Ed.], for those joining the squad for the season, have a good read, so you can have a good sense of the plan and schedule from here through to March. If you did not attend Tuesday's meeting but would like to sign up to the squad, please contact me directly.

    Scullers Head - tomorrow
Very best of luck to our racing crews: Cris (175), Mustafa (294), Andy (300) and Pete (307), we will be cheering you on from shores and wishing you all the best on race day tomorrow.
If you are available, please do sign up and lend a hand - as usual we will be hosting a huge number of clubs and could really do with your help to ensure our head race hosting gets off to the best possible start.

    Pairs Head - 2nd Oct
Our 'Home Race' organised by BBL is just around the corner. Again it will be all hands on deck to help with the Race and Hosting. On Tuesday we announced our racing crews for the Pairs Head Race:
    Open 2x:

    • Boat A: Dom M & Cris C
    • Boat B: Andy S & Mustafa
    • Masters 2 - : Iain G & Brad B

Great to see so many of you at the bungalow this weekend and a huge huge thank you to everyone involved, who helped out during the weekend and loading and unloading the trailer - it couldn't have happened without you and special thanks to Martin and Megan for all the organising. I think all had an excellent time on the calmer waters with plenty of time afloat and socialising on the lawn - living up to its status as a highlight of the Cygnet calendar.

    Training this week:
With availbility limited this weekend, there will be an outing on Sunday only and land training will be ergs Monday and Wednesday in the shed (S&C will commence on Monday 27th). Please make sure you sign up for next weekend before the Tuesday deadline and let's all make an effort to get back to full squad outings please.

    Steering Test:
Sign up on Fitclub for Sat 25 September, after outings

    300 Club:
Bit of a plug for those who aren't yet signed up but would like to support, please see here: 300 Club Website

That's all for now, look forward to seeing many of you at the club for Sculler's head.

Enjoy the photos.

A huge thank you to Henrik, Jim, Martin and everyone who helped get the 70+ crews safely parked and on and off the water for the race, really great that so many of you were there to help out - these races cannot happen without your help and support, so thank you to everyone who did the organising and lending a hand throughout the day: Thank you all!!
