    9th January 2017

First week weekend back of 2017 and one to burn off the turkey, Christmas pub and mince pies. At the last count 17 of us took on the first 5k ergo test of the year, some 5k virgins shaking Mr Lactic Acid by the hand at the 3k mark for the first time... Lots of commitment and determination from everyone and a good number of PBs set, Tim will send out the full results and analysis shortly.

Sunday was the club time trial. Fours boats participated and every rower confessed to enjoying after it was over (well maybe with the exception of Robin). With accurate timings thanks to Tim and Ali Elliott it felt like a real head race and gets our heads and bodies read for the real thing over the coming weeks. It would be good if more of the squad can make future time trials, I'll make sure I give you plenty of advanced notice of it and the logistics.

And there were good sessions for the Novice Squad on Saturday and Sunday, the more time on the water, the better you get...

    Looking forward...

    Squad Poll

I'll be sending out a poll to the whole squad to find out who is wanting to race in the up and coming Head Races. Can everyone please reply to it, even if is to say that you not racing, it will only take 5 minutes of your time, but it will help Tim and the captaincy make informed plans about potential crews for the races.

Dorney Lake Seat Racing 14/15th January

This is something new to our programme from Tim, a chance for a change of water and surrounding and side by side inter squad racing. I've sent more details in a separate email, but please prioritise this and do what you can to be there. We need a critical mass of rowers to make it a success, so please let us know your availability for it via the spreadsheet. Note that this is for experienced rowers, the novice squad will train back at HQ as usual.

    This Week:

Tuesday 7:15pm at Cavendish School: Circuits with Maxi - focus for this term in on core strength. If you want to do well in the races, you should be attending. Bring towel and water.

Wednesday 7pm Club Run 75 mins easy

    Thursday 7pm Squad Ergo 30 min r 20 at 76% of new 2k wattage

    Boat loading for Dorney

Followed by The Captains Curry - not to be missed, extra chillies available on request

Saturday Main Squad Dorney Seat Racing from 8 - 12:30

Novices: normal outing at the club,

Sunday Main Squad Dorney Seat Racing from 8 - 12:30

Novices - outing at the club (subject to numbers and cox availability)

So the new year is underway, let's build on the hard work done before Christmas and take advantage of the great coaching and programme from Tim and commit the time and effort in the run up to the Head of the River Race and Vets Head.

    Have a great week,

    Jez

    3rd January 2017

    Hi All,

Hope you had a great Christmas and a raring to get back on the river training hard for the head races over the next three months. We are all getting fitter and stronger as shown by then number of people setting PBs in the pre Christmas 2k test. This sets us up for more water time and longer outings over the coming weeks. Head of the River is on the 25th March and Vets Head on the 26th, now is the time to commit to racing and doing the training. I'll be canvasing the squad to see who wants to race but it would be great to get a senior, development, novice and vets crews out over the weekend .

An innovation from Tim, we will be holding a training weekend at Dorney Lake on the 14th/15th January with seat racing in 4s and small boats over 1500m. It will be great to have a change of scene and to race each other down the Olympic Regatta course. More details for follow about the logistics, but please make every effort to be there, and mark you availability for it on the speadsheet.

So, the plan over the next couple of weeks is:

Tuesday 3rd 1000 lunges (wherever you choose to do them)

    Wednesday 4th 48min club run

    Thursday 5th Squad Ergo: 3 x 1k at 5k pace, 3min rest

Saturday 8th 5k Ergo test - those who did the 2k test will have a target split from Tim. We will have squad outings first thing to warm up for the test

Sunday 9th Club Time trial - lets get as many boats as we can pushing each other and getting experience rowing in a head race format.

Tuesday 10th Circuits with Maxi at 7:15 Cavendish School

Wednesday 11th 75 min club run

    Thursday 12th 30 min 20 at 76% of new 2k wattage

    Boat loading for Dorney

Saturday 14th Seat racing at Dorney

Sunday 15th Seat racing at Dorney

    Further ahead....

    Saturday 28th Jan Quintin Head

    Sunday 5th March Hammersmith Head

Saturday 25th March Head of the River Race

Sunday 26th March Vets Head of the River Race

Sunday 2nd April The Boat Race

If you ordered kit, it has arrived and is in the mens changing room. Bjarne picked his up on Saturday and his rowing was transformed by looking the part!!!

Looking forward to some great rowing and racing in 2017, see you all soon,

    Jez

    20th December 2016

    All,

Fun and games in Quintin Plum Puddings with 5 rowers making their racing debut for Cygnets. The crews were both made up of experienced guys and new novices with their only race training being the row up to the Pink House. The result in the race within a race was a win for Captain's Crackers over the Marj's Marvels but the real winner was Marj for her fabulous Santa's elf costume. I hope all the guys from the LTR course enjoyed the thrill of racing and inspires then to go onto great things in the new year.

It was 2k Ergo Test on Saturday, the club room was full nerves and apprehension beforehand but well done to everyone who did it and gave it there all and well done to those who set PBs. Next up is a 5k test on the 7th January...

    This week:

    Tuesday - No circuits this week, 30 min r 20 @ 75% of 2k power instead.

    Wednesday Club Run 5k

    Thursday Squad ergo 30 min r 20 @ 75% of 2k power.

Saturday Squad outing 8am OTW, 7:40 at the club - please fill in your availability of the spreadsheet so we can see how many of you are around and plan the outings

Sunday - Turkey overdose. No squad outings, but feel free to go for a scull or do and ergo

Next Week: No squad training, but mindful of the 5k test on the 7th, please feel free to come and use the Shed focusing of long low rate pieces. Scullers, if you plan to go out mark it on the sheet before you go with the time you plan to go out so if others are interested you can form a sculling pod.

I'll seen out the plan for Saturday on Thursday,

    Jez
