    5th October 2016

    Hi All,

I hope those out on the Rhine had a fab weekend, enjoyed the beer and sausages and backsides and hands are not too sore after a day to recover.

For those who stayed at home, it was very autumnal on the Tideway with heavy rain soaking the crews 2x, 2- and 4+ crews on their way back from the Pink House. And the LTR students got a taste of proper rowing weather on their outings. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

The big news this club is that we have secured the services of Tim Male to lead our coaching. Tim is an ex GB rower, an Olympian and the holder of a number of indoor ergo records. He has a great coaching pedigree at Tideway Scullers and it is a fantastic opportunity for Cygnet to have someone of his experience leading our coaching. Tim would like to meet the club members and active rowers this Saturday to introduce himself and present his plan to us. I'll confirm the time but please make every effort to attend. Sue Cole and Alan will both continue to coach us working with Tim so we are in great shape and have a real opportunity to improve our fitness and technique, build the active squad and win things!!! He will work us hard but this is what people have been asking for (be careful what you wish for). Bring it on!

    So this week...

    Tuesday 7:15 Cavendish School
Circuits with Maxi - bring towel and water and be prepared for pain...

    Thursday
7:00 LTR Meet and warm up in the Shep followed by Tank session
7:30 Squad ergo 30 min erg at R22-24 (with 3 mins at R28 at minutes 7, 17, and 27) Nice and short ergo after last week, so let's see those splits coming down

Saturday (I've brought the outing time forward so you can meet Tim at 9:30)
7:30 Squad outings coached by Sue
Small boats - 70 mins long row.

    10am LTR water session
We need a cox and two boat sitters please - no one has signed up and I am away this weekend.

    Sunday 8:30
    Squad outings coached by Sue

    Further ahead

    16th October 12:30
Pairs Head - first big head race of the season, organised by Barnes Bridge so please support.

Bart and Gav, Ian and Matt, and Robin and Jez are entered. Come along and support, eat the BBL hot dogs and cakes and socialise in the bar.

    Even further ahead...

12/13th November Fours Head/Vet Fours Head

If you want to compete you should be out training on the water as much as you can, so get your availability up to date, and get out there and do it.

That's all for now, I'll confirm the time of the meeting with Tim, see you at circuits tomorrow.

    20th September 2016

    Cygnets one and all,

Bizeee weekend on and off the water.

Many thanks to Cris for organising our end of season dinner in the incomparable surroundings of the Coach and Horses. Congratulations to Scott for winning the JP Jefferies rower of the year and Alan Cox the Wally Wheddel club man award. Both well deserved. Scott has worked hard on and off the water in crew boats as well as in a single scull and in addition taken on the job of club boatman, fixing the wear and tear and dings and scratches that the rest of us put in the fleet. And Alan has given so much time out in the launch coaching us with good humour and enormous patience. Lets go out and win some pots for him soon.

On the Tideway we had 30 people rowing on Saturday morning. The learn to row Cygnets took their first tentative strokes and were doing something that was recognisably rowing by the end of the two outings. And good to see a fleet of small boats training for Pairs Head and Fours Head. It's good to see so many people out, let's maintain the momentum.

Pairs Head and Fours/Vet Head Fours Head are just around the corner. If you want to be in these events you need to be putting in the time on and off the water, most importantly we need consistent water outings. So can everyone get their availability up to date on the famous spreadsheet please.

Pairs Head - Volunteers are required for marshalling and launch driving. The event is run by Barnes Bridge so please help if you can and let Sue Cole know copying me in please.

    This Week:

Tuesday 7:15 Cavendish School, Edensor Road

Circuits with Maxi. Build your core strength for the winter season. Bring a drink and a towel.

Thursday 7:00 PM LTR - warm up in the Shed then from 7:15 in the Tank

7:30 Squad ergo - 30 mins rate 20 feet out, splits the same as last week's feet in orgo.

    Weekend:

Saturday 8am Squad outings coached by Sue

    10am LTR with Alan

Sunday 8am Squad outings coached by Sue

I am away this weekend, but see you at circuit tonight and have a good week everyone

    Jez
