The Last Log

It's been a busy year since the last captaincy election. The squad has had to weather the loss of Tim Male as head coach; big thanks to everyone who has stepped into the launch to help out during the year, particularly Kirsty, Alan and Gareth (in his single scull).
The meatwagon continued the regatta season where they left off last summer with wins at Chiswick, Borne and Richmond regattas; in each case the top tier of the 4+ events. Well done, and I hope there's still time for some final hurrahs before winter training takes over.
Big thanks to everyone who has stepped into the smallest seat during the year; particular thanks to Anna and Hannah for crossing the divide when their BBLRC duties have allowed it. Hopefully most of the squad have now had a go at steering/coxing under supervision; please consider taking the steering test and becoming accredited to help the club continue to field crews for training and racing.

Racing news:
It was a glorious sunshine-y day for Richmond Regatta on Saturday and the regatta was opened by a Novice 8+ contest between Cygnet and Kingston. Unfortunately for the boys in blue, the scratch Cygnet crew ended up on the wrong side of a 3ft verdict after 1250m of nail-biting side by side action. A flotilla of fours competed later in the day and the XL Meatwagon (Scott, Ian, Nick, Sam, Gigi) came away with the pewterware in Tier 1 4+
Please get the fitclub filled in up to 12th August (or beyond) by Sunday night so the captaincy can assess the summer regatta programme and start to plan crews.
300 Club
A reminder that the 300 Club is Cygnet's main fundraiser for purchasing the shiny new boats and fittings that everyone enjoys using. It is generally expected that all active members will have at least a couple of tickets so that the fleet can be renewed on a regular basis.
The 2018-19 season kicks off with the first draw at Henley on Friday. Each ticket is £10 and will gain you entry into every draw made in the season.
Prize draws offer wins of £25, £40, £60, £100.
So, for example, if you set up a standing order for £5/month, you will get 6 tickets for the year, entered into each draw.
Please let Guy duPB know if you have sent him money for tickets.

Farewell to Magnus who returns to Sweden today. First airing of the newly arrived Cygnet racing kit in the 3 ft defeat in the eight on Saturday, and then had the kit baptised by the Connaught whilst out in the quad on Sunday. We hope you find a nice place to row in Malmö, and can follow in the footsteps of the great Lassi Karonen.

The new Learn to Row course has started. Additional members welcome if you know anyone who wants to learn to row.

Captain's Log 04/06

Racing news
The metwagon (Scott, Ian, Nick, Sam, Gigi) raced in Tier 3 and Tier 4 4+ at Metropolitan Regatta on Saturday. Some tough racing against crews that would have registered as Senior and IM1 status under the old points system; Cygnet came fourth in their T3 heat, just missing out on a final place. The T4 race was a stronger field, and a small mistake on the start line left a little too much to do to catch back up to the pack and also finish the race strongly. On to the next race, watch this space.

Is on Saturday and Sunday. If you're coming down, please aim to be at the bungalow by 10am on Saturday for the safety briefing; the navigation is more restricted than usual due to races both days of the weekend. Boat loading is Thursday evening from 6pm. Please try to come down and help out if you're planning to do scamp.
HRR - Old Blades
We have been invited to Old Blades again on the Friday of the regatta. See here for further details.
HRR - Remenham Club
The club has been offered the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Remenham Club enclosure at Henley for the Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday of the regatta. Let me know if you're interested and I'll point you in the right direction. (subject to availability).
